APG - Hazardous Material Coordinator

 

Job Summary and General Purpose of Position:


The Hazardous Material Coordinator works with the Environmental Compliance Supervisor and functions as a member of the APG EH&S team. The Hazardous Material Coordinator manages the ordering, storage, recycling and disposal of chemicals, vehicles and trash. The Hazardous Material Coordinator organizes fuel and oil deliveries, storage and allocation. The Hazardous Material Coordinator participates in SPCC inspections, water sampling and air quality observations. The Hazardous Material Coordinator serves as a backup for the Environmental Compliance Supervisor.

 

This position will be at Volkswagen Proving Ground in Maricopa, AZ. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Schedule and document crushing of test vehicles by outside vendors
  • Arrange dumpster location, scheduling and removal with vendors for tires, trash, and scrap metal
  • Arrange proper storage and recycling of Li-Ion batteries
  • Monitor waste fuel, oil and coolant levels and arrange collection and recycling as needed
  • Fuel/Chemical Ordering, Storage and Allocation
  • Monitor bulk fuel quantities and order, schedule and oversee deliveries
  • Coordinate with test groups to acquire specialty fuels and arrange purchase, delivery, storage and pump set up as needed
  • Troubleshoot fuel delivery systems and software, arrange for vendor repairs when needed
  • Maintain records of fuel deliveries and usage
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure compliance with site SPCC plan
  • Maintain proficiency in EPA Method 9 Opacity Evaluations and conduct observations to comply with site Air Quality and Dust Control Plans
  • Conduct sampling of water for ADEQ compliance
  • Assist with Silica sampling to ensure driver respiratory protection is adequate
  • Assist with towing of test vehicles

Qualifications

Requirements:

 

  • Associate’s / Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Sustainability or related fields. Would consider a combination of education and on-the-job experience.
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Valid AZ driver’s license required
  • Obtain 24 Hr HAZWOPER within 1 year
  • Obtain DOT/IATA Hazmat Certification within 1 year
  • Obtain EPA Method 9 Certification within 6 months
  • Experience managing fuel and oil storage, waste collection sites
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local Haz Mat and Environmental Regulations (RCRA, DOT, TSCA, EPCRA)
  • Forklift Certification

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Job requires sitting, standing, and bending throughout the course of a workday
  • Must be flexible and available to work overtime and odd hours including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays
  • Work may be done under the summer months in Arizona weather
  • Some work tasks will take place outdoors, must be able to work outside in hot inclement temperatures
  • Must pass a Physical. Must pass a drug test. 

 

Desired/Preferred:

 

  • 40 Hours of HAZWOPER
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Sustainability or related fields
  • Familiar with common industry EH&S Procedures
  • Experience with chemical inventory and audits

Work Flexibility:

 

Work schedule based on business requirements (minimum 40 hours/week) including occasional Saturday and occasional overtime. Core work hours are 7am – 4pm.

Often driving a motor vehicle, including performance class and prototypes, which may require completion of special training
