    The main function of a Powertrain and Calibration Engineer is to develop and work on the powertrain system within vehicles.


    • Support the roll-out of model year software for US market light-duty gasoline engines.
    • Plan and conduct testing of gasoline powertrains in the areas of combustion, emissions control/OBD, and driveability.
    • Perform root cause analysis of issues, develop and confirm countermeasures, support emissions testing and resolve powertrain issues on gasoline durability vehicles.
    • Investigate field issues of US market gasoline vehicles.
    • This position defines, implements and maintains Engineering software for all systems in Long Beach and other MBRDNA locations while collaborating with central services at MBRDNA & Germany to provision and deploy the necessary HW/SW according to business unit requirements
      • Analyzing and communicating processes reliability, quality and cost on behalf of the business units and local IT
      • Driving change or implementation of new tools as well as support models independently
      • Continually improving system performances
      • Ensuring implementation of best practices in hardware set up and maintenance with the corporate IT team
    • Diagnostics & Calibration Support:
      • Supporting diagnostics and calibration applications such as INCA, CANalyzer, CANape, …
      • Assisting troubleshooting of all diagnostics and calibration applications in the vehicle
    • Vehicle Management Support:
      • Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of vehicle mgmt. specific applications and aligning MBRDNA services with those of Daimler RD
      • Managing access rights and ensure the continuous access for testing applications
      • Provision training and ensure training availability for end users
    • General IT and Project Support:
      • Continuous tracking of diagnostics hardware and licenses
      • Creating and maintaining 1st level support documentation
      • Supporting 1st Level administrators in case of high user demand or Help Desk absence


    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science
    • Min. 3-5 years of experience with automotive software applications
    • Experience with light-duty gasoline engine development in the areas of combustion, emissions control/OBD, and driveability- experience with light-duty gasoline engine control units, especially Bosch control units. Understanding of light-duty gasoline emissions and OBD regulations.
    • Proficiency with powertrain development tools such as INCA and Matlab/Simulink. Ability to author clear and concise technical reports for a wide, global audience.
    • Strong knowledge of OBD protocols and CAN architecture
    • Basic knowledge about Windows OS, IT operations and Networking
    • Strong communication skills in order to build up strong networks with counter parts in the US as well as German
    • Strong Project management and communication skill, capable managing project with multiple key players at multiple locations.
    • Valid US driver’s license
    • German language preferred
    • Experience working with ETAS and VECTOR tools (INCA, MDA, CANape, CANalyzer, …) preferred
    • Experience working in large corporation, with complex network architecture across multiple continents preferred
    • International experience, working with teams in DevOps mode preferred
