    Responsibilities

    • Maintains knowledge of US and European regulations, legislation, standards and safeguarding techniques. Participates in detailed reviews of functional safety areas and provides subject matter expert direction to engineers and planners.
    • Coordinates safety into bid packages, product development, new products, and new equipment installation.
    • Benchmarks and introduces new safety technology within the Paint Shop.
    • Analyzes, recommends, and steers implementation of engineering safety controls in a highly automated environment.
    • Assesses risks of new technology, automation, process modifications, and machine systems (i.e.: Robotics, PLCs, Safety Controllers, Conveyance Systems, Safety Devices, Laser Applications, Chemical Delivery Systems, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, etc.).
    • Develops and improves the department safety and equipment specifications for new technology, lessons learned, and standard updates.
    • Leads and is accountable for the assessment of associate risks in new equipment installation, change management, and process/procedure changes.
    • Completes safety sign-offs on new equipment, structure, modifications, and expansions during the Equipment Turnover Process (new construction). Works closely with planning engineers, construction contractors, and the paint safety representative.
    • Participates in Plant-wide Safety and Health initiatives.
    • Participates in periodic “tool box” talks with contractors.
    • Performs regular audits of construction areas for safe work practices, fall protection, hot work, PPE, barricading, confined space, chemical usage, etc.

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS Degree (preferably in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Ergonomics) or the equivalent of 4 years professional experience in the safety field (experience in automotive or similar automated industrial manufacturing environment preferred
    • 5+ years related experience in implementing and writing technical documentations / specifications, evaluating/assessing equipment/system risks, and working with safety and health management systems in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
    • Certified Safety Professional (preferred).
    • 5+ years knowledge in OSHA General Industry Standards.
    • 3+ years verbal and written  communication skills as proven through business application.
    • 3+ years knowledge of safety devices, machine safe-guarding, safety systems, and robotic safety standards.
